Section III
B. Lucia Taglia, born 2 march 1871 (death certificate states 3 April 1874) in Ricigliano. She may have also used the name Rosa (see below). She married Pasquale Salvatore on 7 November 1886 at Assumption BVM Church at Illinois & Orleans Streets. He was born in August 1858 in Italy, according to the 1900 census; marriage license gave his age as 27 (born c. 1859). In 1900 they were living at 509 Clark St. (between Taylor St. and Roosevelt Rd.) with children Vito and Francesca. Pasquale is listed as a saloon keeper. Lucia Taglia Salvatore died 7 April 1915; buried Mount Carmel Cemetery. Informant on her death certificate was her brother, Frank Taglia. Her residence at time of death was 519 Forquer (now Arthington). There was no death notice in the Chicago Daily News. Pasquale Salvatore died 18 September 1903; buried Mount Carmel Cemetery. He is not buried in the same lot as Lucia. The circumstances of Pasquale’s death were somewhat mysterious. He was a saloon keeper at 507 S. Clark St. in Chicago at the time of his death. According to an article in the Chicago Tribune (copy enclosed), the president of the St. Francis Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters prevailed upon the coroner to stop Pasquale’s funeral with information that he may have been poisoned in an attempt to collect his life insurance. An inquest was held (copy enclosed), but the coroner’s jury upheld the original cause of death; locomotor ataxia. The first witness listed was Rosa Salvatore, who lived at the 507 S. Clark St. address, who is probably Pasquale’s wife, Lucia. There is some circumstantial evidence that Lucia may possibly have married a William Salvatore after Pasquale’s death, but that has not been confirmed.
Children:
- William Vito Salvatore, born 12 August 1887; baptized Assumption BVM Catholic Church. To date, there is no definitive information on William Vito. There appears to be a World War I draft registration for him, with a date of birth that matches closely, 1 August 1887. he is listed as married with one child, living at 703 Sholto St. He is not the William V. Salvatore who died 4 October 1979 (wife was Ann Vitullo: son of James & Antonio Salvatore). A Vito Salvatore died in Chicago February 1945, but he does not appear to be the right man (wife Minnie: survived by 3 sisters). Another Vito Salvatore died October 1936 (wife Vitantonia).

Frances died in Lost Angeles, 20 November 1953; there was no death notice in any of the Los Angeles newspapers, and no probate record. James V. Scalise died after 1953.
